Kara Walker

Kara Walker, born 26/11/1969 is an African American artist who does her designs on exploring race, sex and violence. Her work is best known of her black paper silhouettes, drawing and painting on walls.

In her designs she shows the history of how the people in Africa were attempted to lose their power away and got enslaved from others. The characters in her designs show the human behaviours like struggles, physical, emotions, racial and nudity.

the art movement she used in her designs is art nouveau because her black paper silhouettes has shapes, curvy and swirly lines.
This image is about a woman turning the winding key on mans to allow him to play the guitar while the other man jumps for joy with the trumpet in the jungle.

I didn’t like some of her designs because they are so of weird. But the techniques in her designs using black paper silhouettes, drawing and painting are really good because these techniques can teach me to create my own design.

Mr Brainwash

Mr Brainwash,

Mr Brainwash, born in Paris is the moniker of Los Angeles based filmmaker and street artist Thierry Guetta. During Banksy-directed film ‘Exit through the Gift Shop’ He first began working as a proprietor in clothing store and a videographer filming street artists in the 2000s. Until he then becomes an artist in his own right after an off-hand suggestion from Banksy. Before Guetta became an artist he was first visited to see street art by his cousin, the street artist Invader. He didn’t typically have much physical involvement in the walls and buildings of the artwork attributed to him, but he did give ideas to the graphic designers in his creative team. Like his associate Banksy, he also employs famous artistic and historic images which many were copyrighted and amends the originals in sometimes a slight, different ways.  A number of critics have observed his works and have strongly emulated the styles and concepts of Banksy. Critics also have speculated and commented that he is an elaborate prank staged by Banksy, who has created the artworks himself. Banksy insists on his official website, but, his film ‘Exit through the Gift Shop’ is authentic and that Guetta is not part of a prank. His artwork was sold for five-figure sums at his self-financed debut exhibit ‘Life is Beautiful’. It was thought to be a mixture of an overheated and hyped street art market. Banksy and Fairey was as seen in ‘Exit through the Gift Shop’, he was misuse of endorsements from Banksy and Fairey. The exhibit was held in Los Angeles, California, on June 18, 2008 and was to be a popular and critical success. Until 2009, Madonna paid Guetta to design the cover art for her Madonna's Celebration album.

Mr Brainwash creates his artworks by looking what around him or what in front of him. E.g. he could design the background of a town with one or more characters in front holding or wearing something on them. I like his work because he uses different background, characters, costumes, etc. with shapes and colors to create an artwork of  his own and they can give me ideas of designing my own artwork like him.

I like this image that I took from the exhibition because this image show two portrait of batman’s ancestors who were also part of the batman’s & woman’s hero from their past.

Si Scott

Si Scott is UK’s famous graphic designer from Leeds. He left school at the age of 16 to study a BTEC Art & Design course in Graphic Design in Leeds College and then he was studying a foundation in Visual Communication. Before he was going to continue studying a degree in Graphic Design in Buckinghamshire University, he had to stay in London for 2 to 3 years to continue working on a number of different small design & his own projects in graphic designs.

His designs are based on typography; he starts to think of ideas to create a font & shapes of a letter & draws it on papers. He then starts to play around with different page layouts & uses a fine liner to add in details & effects turning his design into an illustration. His design gets bigger when he scans it on computer at 125%, when he decreased his design to the actual size he can make it very crisp & clean.

His drawing, type and design give him ideas to create an illustration of his typography; he also has inspiration that comes constantly by listening to music while working on his design. He listens to the lyrics of the music carefully & uses words from it to create an illustration.

He made friends with Kerry for a few years in London and always said will do something together & decides to set up their own studio together. But when they are both busy with their own work they haven’t had time to really concentrate on the illustration 'We Are Bitch'. But they will hopefully get a chance to work together a bit more in the future.
